B2B for online DJing!

Image
B2B for online DJing may soon be a reality While online collaborative music programs are having their moment thanks in large thanks to COVID-19, the same cannot be said for similar DJ services. Up until now, latency has been the primary issue impeding DJs from playing together back-to-back across the Internet. DJing with a partner across a network requires real-time, instantaneous data transfer, and thus such time delay issues have prevented the instantaneous creativity that a B2B requires.  Latency no more: meet faraway.dj. Stepping in to provide a solution to this problem is  faraway.dj , a start-up service in the UK set up by DJ and network engineer Gavin Hamill. As stated on the site, faraway.dj’s goal is to ‘ provide an easy to use service that allows any DJ to play a live set against any other DJ .’ Originally having designed a software system that would provide the link between two online DJs, Hamill eventually came to the realization that the only way to overcome this ...

Native Instruments Traktor Kontrol S8

Image
Native Instruments Traktor Kontrol S8 Ever since Native Instruments released the Maschine Studio with large color displays, DJs have imagined a Traktor controller with full resolution displays. Last November DJs got their wish when Native Instruments released their first Traktor controller with fully integrated screens, the  Traktor Kontrol S8 . The controller has been out for a while, and our own Ryan Dejaegher has been putting it through the real world trials to see if it’s worth the investment. When looking at the Traktor Kontrol S8, it’s easy to see the influence from other Native Instruments controllers. The screens are very similar to screens found on the  Maschine Studio , the touch strip pulled from the Kontrol X1 MK2, and the pads, short faders and knobs borrowed from the Kontrol F1. With all these controls rolled together, the Kontrol S8 becomes the only controller a Traktor DJ would ever need. Hardware: Build Quality + Controls Native ...

Pioneer S-DJ05 Monitors

Solid sound and interesting control options make the S-DJ05 good value at this price. View in gallery Review Pioneer is no stranger to the world of speaker design or to that of DJing and its latest products are aimed at building a further bridge between them. The S-DJ05 and '08 monitors are speakers designed for the studio and the DJ-alike with a high-quality monitoring signal for the former and some neat trickery aimed at making life in the home booth that much easier. Overview The '05 model is the subject of this review and like its big brother, it offers active monitoring. The '05 offers a 5" silver cone on the front with separate 2.5cm tweeter above, while the back panel is unexpectedly busy, with no less than four input sources available to you. As well as an XLR input, two phono ports are provided, as is a TRS balanced quarter-inch jack input. Buttons on the rear panel allow you to toggle between these input sources (with LEDs on the front panel confirming your...

Native Instruments Komplete Audio 6

Installation of the relevant software is quick and easy. View in gallery Review The Komplete Audio 6 is a new fist-sized, heavy-duty metal interface from Native Instruments. As an ideal partner to a laptop (and an ideal introduction to their software) it's portable enough to sling in a bag and flexible enough to make both producers and DJs happy. Its main forte is its six ins and outs without the need for external power. There's four balanced quarter-inch outs on the back and four ins via combo jacks and quarter-inchers. Inputs and outputs '5/6' remain exclusively S/PDIF however. There's quick and easy line/ instrument level selection buttons on one and two, with gain knobs supplying enough power to bring quiet mics up to strength. There's noise at the top end but if you need to push your gear this far then it's time to go shopping. Flexible features "There's something reassuringly 'right about the Komplete Audio 6's big, top-mounted 'M...
